Следует отметить, что неофициальная история метакритики в литературоведении США несколько старше упомянутого Биррер факта ее канонизации – в 1980-х гг. «интерпретация интерпретации» упоминается нередко, а ее критика и даже появление мета-метакритиков в этой среде подчеркивали ситуативность и специфическую повестку метакритических проектов [Landa, 1988].

It should be noted that the unofficial history of metacriticism in American literary studies is somewhat older than the fact of its canonization mentioned by Birrer – in the 1980s, the “interpretation of interpretation” was frequently mentioned, and its criticism and even the emergence of meta-meta-critics in this environment emphasized the situational nature and specific agenda of metacritical projects [Landa, 1988].
